The International Society for Military Ethics in Europe (Euro-ISME) provides a focus for analysis, development and sharing of best practice in the area of professional military ethics. The creation of the Society was prompted by a worrying lack of engagement between theoreticians and practitioners.
Euro-ISME was established into French law on June 16th 2011 by a inaugural assembly made up of representatives from over twenty countries. The event was co-convened by Dr David Whetham, King’s College London, Dr. Henri Hude, Ecoles de Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan and Col (rtd) Manfred Rosenberger, building on initiatives already established in the UK, France and Germany joined immediately by the Leadership Training Centre of the Federal Armed Forces.
As well as an annual conference which moves around the states of Europe (the 2013 conference on "Reconciliation and Reconstruction" was held in Amsterdam in May 2013), debate and the exchange of ideas between military and non military professionals in this area is also facilitated by a growing discussion forum at www.euroisme.eu
Euro-ISME is supported by the Charles Leopold Mayer Foundation, and its institutional members Defence Academy of the UK, King’s College London, Ledaership Tranining Centre Koblenz, Research Center of the Military Academy of Saint-Cyr and the Inamori International Centre for Ethics and Excellence (Case Western Reserve University).

As part of the European Awards for Citizenship, Security and Defence, the International Society of Military Ethics in Europe received a special prize in the category «Europe of Peace». The award was mainly adjudicated in recognition of Euro-ISME’s ongoing engagement in providing a European forum for discussing issues relating to military ethics. The certificate especially emphasises the "research initiatives and the valorisation of reference models in the area of military ethics".
